Infrastructure

With unprecedented growth in North Alabama, Marilyn understands we are all spending more time stuck in traffic and less time with our families. That is why she is committed to fighting for infrastructure funding to improve road conditions and reduce traffic congestion so that our community continues to be one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family.

Affordability

Marilyn knows families are struggling with rising costs of everyday life - from utilities and groceries to healthcare premiums and housing. She supports repealing the state grocery tax, investing in affordable housing, and raising wages for hardworking Alabamians.

Healthcare

Marilyn believes no one should have to choose between their health and their finances. During her first term alone, she expanded access to life-saving prenatal care for mothers. That is why she will continue to fight and deliver real results for Alabamians.

Alabama must improve healthcare and protect families’ ability to make their own medical decisions.

Alabamians deserve access to quality healthcare. Marilyn came to the State House with a commitment to improve healthcare access for women and families, and she has worked to turn that commitment into results.

Marilyn introduced and passed the Alabama Maternal Healthcare Act, expanding access to prenatal care and helping mothers and babies get the care they need. She has also worked to protect access to IVF and birth control.

Marilyn also believes Alabama must address the growing mental health crisis facing children and families. She established a K-12 Mental Health Task Force to identify solutions to the youth mental health crisis in our schools and has championed greater investment in community mental health resources.

Alabama still faces serious challenges in maternal health, mental health, and healthcare access. Marilyn believes our state should be focused on making care more affordable and accessible and giving families the support they need to thrive.

Marilyn supports:

• Protecting women’s ability to make their own healthcare decisions and repealing Alabama’s extreme abortion ban.
• Expanding access to prenatal and maternal healthcare.
• Protecting access to IVF and birth control.
• Expanding Medicaid to strengthen Alabama’s healthcare system and support hospitals.
• Investing in community mental health services and expanding access to care.
• Continuing to identify and implement solutions to improve youth mental health in Alabama schools.
• Lowering healthcare costs and making quality care more accessible to Alabama families.

Alabama is growing, and communities like ours are seeing new families and businesses move here every day.

Marilyn understands the challenges facing small businesses and working families. In the State House, she has made affordability a priority. She has fought to eliminate Alabama’s grocery tax, co-sponsored legislation to freeze the gas tax, and pushed for no state income tax on overtime pay to help working Alabamians keep more of what they earn.

Marilyn believes Alabama can have a strong economy while also making sure that working people share in that growth. That means supporting small businesses, building more affordable housing, investing in our workforce, and making sure Alabama remains a place where families can afford to live, work, and raise a family.

Marilyn supports:



• Permanently eliminating Alabama’s grocery tax to lower costs for working families.
• Freezing the gas tax when gas prices spike to provide relief at the pump.
• Eliminating the state income tax on overtime pay so working Alabamians can keep more of their paychecks.
• Expanding access to affordable housing.
• Supporting small businesses by cutting unnecessary red tape and making it easier to grow and create jobs.
• Attracting new businesses and high-quality jobs while supporting the businesses already invested in our communities.
• Building stronger school-to-work and workforce development programs so Alabamians are prepared for the jobs of the future.

North Alabama is growing quickly, and our infrastructure must keep up. New families and businesses are bringing opportunity to our communities, but growth also means more traffic, pressure on schools, and greater demands on roads, libraries, and other public services.

Marilyn believes Alabama should invest in the infrastructure our growing communities need while making sure our schools have the resources to prepare every child for the future.

As your representative, Marilyn has worked to secure funding for local schools and libraries and has fought to make sure communities like ours have the resources to keep up with growth. She introduced legislation to protect the aerospace, manufacturing, defense, and research jobs that are critical to Huntsville and North Alabama’s economy.

Marilyn believes strong schools, reliable infrastructure, thriving libraries, and a well-trained workforce are essential to keeping North Alabama a great place to live and work.

Marilyn supports:

• Investing in roads, bridges, transportation, and other infrastructure needed to keep up with Alabama’s growth.
• Giving growing school districts the resources they need to build and expand schools and facilities.
• Ensuring every child has access to a strong start in school.
• Making sure schools have the resources they need to support students with special needs.
• Protecting the aerospace, manufacturing, defense, and research jobs that drive North Alabama’s economy.
• Strengthening workforce development by connecting students and workers with the skills employers need.
• Supporting and investing in local libraries as essential community resources.
